  • Admission: Is my qualification in Latin/qualification in Greek sufficient for my admission?
    • In order to be accepted for the BA Classical Archaeology a qualification-exam in Latin is mandatory.
    • In order to be accepted for the MA Classical Archaeology qualification-exams in Latin and Greek can be enacted as stipulations (Curriculum §3(3)).
This is only of concern to you if your BA-studies were not in Classical Archaeology and/or not from the University of Vienna and if Latin and Greek were not sufficiently considered during your prior studies.

According to the University's regulation §2 a qualification-exam is omitted, if...

If you took classes in Latin/Greek during school but thehours/week are not displayed on your certificate/if you have a different certificate you want us to cosider, kindly sent a scan the document(s) in question to Lavinia Enache and cc the Study Admission Office. This way you can check your situation in advance.

  • Admission: Can I start my master's studies directly after finishing my BA?

If your MA is a continuation study programme, yes. This is possible due to the "up-to-the-minute admission". (Sorry, the website is currently only available in German. Please contact the Study Admission office if you have trouble with the website!)

    Be aware:

    • With the "up-to-the-minute-admission" the current semester counts as the first proper semester of your studies. This might effects grants and the duration of your studies. Example: BA-graduation November 28, 2025, admission MA-registration November 29, 2025: WS 2025 is your first full semester.
    • If you are registered for only one study-programme and do not use the "up-to-the-minute-admission", you loose your status as student until the start of the next semester (Okt 1/Mar 1). You cannot take exams, make registrations or submit recognition of courses during this time.
    • If you make use of the "up-to-the-minute-admission", you still need to register properly for your MA.
